Media-sharing via mobile device continues to advance along side technology. We can accomplish more with just our phones than any generation before us, and Viber has taken sight on helping us advance even farther. And though Viber probably won't replace your core text service completely, it's features, and the fact that it is completely free to use, just might entice you to use it more often.
Easy Setup
After the initial download, Viber asks for special permissions from you and will then scan your contacts and compile them into a list of other Viber users by syncing with your Facebook. You then enter your phone number, and set up a profile -- this part can be as minimal as you'd like because only entering the phone number is required to use the service. After that, you can manually add other Viber users by entering their phone numbers.
Viber users can interact through any platform including Android, iOS, Blackberry Windows Phone and Symbian. You can even use it on Windows and OS X 10.7 if you are so inclined.

App Features and Use
As mentioned, with Viber you can message anyone for free (this includes sending a message to a non-Viber user). However, you can't make free calls unless the person you are calling is being contacted through their Viber app. Which doesn't mean you can't call them, just that carrier rates will apply. Calls are clear through Viber, have their own incoming and outgoing screen and perform on par with your phone's existing system.
Viber's interface is clean and elegant with simple purples and whites. The text screen is easy to use and comes with animated emoticons and stickers you can send alone or with messages. You can also take pictures (or send existing saved pictures) and, as long as the receiver is also using Viber through a Wifi network, you can send them instantly. Otherwise, your send-to-receive wait time will depend on your wireless network. This feature works much like live chat and is fantastic if you need quick feedback.

Verdict
Though Viber sits among many free text, chat and phone applications available, it easily ranks at the top. It is very fast and has an intuitive and simple interface. You can make high-quality and free domestic and international calls through VoIP, 3g, 4g, and Wifi with your existing number, and it comes with tons of emoticons and stickers that are loads of fun to use, which makes sharing with your friends easier than ever. Overall, Viber is the best of its kind and a highly recommended download.
